Summary:

The consultant will serve as an onsite resource in direct communication with the executive leadership, and business units. The BC role needed to develop the risk assessments, BIA’s, BCP’s and training approach.

Phase 1 – Roadmap and execution plan (4-8 weeks) – part time workApply here icon

1. Formalize program and secure sponsorship

We will establish the program charter to include the program structure, roadmap, success metrics, and sponsors.
We will establish program reporting to include briefing the status to the board and other executive leaders.

2. Review and update policy

We will review and update the policy to contain the mission, goals, stakeholder functions, key roles and responsibilities and lifecycle. We will establish measures to monitor compliance to policy, and create policy awareness.

3. Incorporate resilience elements into business continuity program

We will assist in the development of classifying current threats and vulnerabilities. We will assist in the identification of baseline critical processes that support the business continuity program.

4. Establish training approach and schedule

We will develop the training approach. We will develop the training schedule to include upcoming training, exercises and events.

5. Create risk matrix

We will establish a process of identifying risks, assessing the critical functions necessary for an organization to continue business operations, defining the controls in place to reduce organization exposure and evaluations the cost for such controls.

6. Establish communication campaign

Communication with the stakeholders to better define the program and resources needed. The participants will be doing work they haven’t done before. How employees are communicated with through the onboarding process will change as well.

Phase 2 – Execute the plan (4-6 months) – full-time work

1. Conduct risk assessment

We will conduct the RA approved by the SC. The participants and business stakeholders will be a part of this process.

2. Conduct Business Impact Analysis (BIA)

We will Identify baseline critical processes and key dependencies. We will conduct BIA’s based on risk, initial criticality, allowable downtime, resources, dependencies, timeframe and seasonality.

3. Document business continuity plans

  • We will document continuity plans using BIA’s from critical areas. Plans should include:
  • Detailed procedures for recovering critical business processes in the absence of key staff, IT, facilities, 3rd parties and other dependencies.
  • Procedures for activating the plan and notifying critical staff to execute recovery strategies/workarounds.
  • Procedures for returning to normal operations and contact information.

4. Execute on plans/capabilities in an exercise

We will develop and socialize the business continuity plan. We will conduct a discussion-based table top exercise to validate recovery strategies once they are documented.

Brief description

This position is responsible for management and coordination of the Business Continuity Program including planning, organizing, leading, managing, and controlling all aspects of the ongoing program. The Business Continuity Program Manager II provides guidance, manages large projects and implementations, and manages groups of technical and business staff on initiatives in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization. The Business Continuity Manager II is highly knowledgeable, with a broad set of skills that cross technical, business, project, risk, crisis management, program, and vendor management.

Disaster Recovery focus

  • Development and update of IT DR plans (working with IT units)

Detailed description

  • Leads and manages all aspects of (multiple) large projects with overall accountability for project(s)
  • Develops and communicates Business Continuity policies and strategies in line with business goals and objectives
  • Leads, guides, and mentors business and technical staff (up to fifty) on related short and long term project efforts designed to achieve program vision and objectives, meeting temporal and financial objectives.
  • Provides detailed business and technical guidance on the design, implementation, and execution of Business Continuity systems, products, processes, standards, and regulations to all layers of the organization, including analyzing and implementing solutions to meet regulatory and contractual requirements, management of disasters such as fires, floods, earthquakes, or other crises that lead to business disruption
  • Trains upper management in crisis management duties and protocols
  • Identifies requirements, administers selection process, negotiates terms, implements and manages contract updates and performance for vendors who deliver complex solutions for the Business Continuity Program
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training or experience is required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with hands-on project management or equivalent
  • Be a CBCP–DR-II certified business continuity professional or member of the Business Continuity Institute Certificate or equivalent experience in business continuity, IT disaster recovery, and crisis management
  • Excellent business management skills including process engineering, practices and procedures, and general business operations.
  • Knowledgeable in technology management, including system design and engineering, networking, and database
  • Excellent deep analysis capabilities, and the ability to make decisions and create workable strategies and processes from those analyses.
  • Must be able to understand fairly complex written and oral instructions
  • Ability to clearly present written information and findings
  • Ability to communicate concepts
  • Ability to make executive-level presentations
  • Ability to interact well with co-workers and outside contacts
  • PC literacy required; MSOffice skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Regularly required to work standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, fax machine, etc.)
  • Ability to work on a computer up to 7 hours a day
  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk
  • Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment
