Since 2001, BC Management, Inc., now Firestorm, has been gathering data on business continuity management programs and compensations to provide professionals with the information they need to elevate their programs. Each year our organization strives to improve upon the study questions, distribution of the report and the reporting of the data collected.
The online study was developed by the Firestorm Program Analytics team in conjunction with our International Benchmarking Advisory Board. Participants were notified of the study primarily through e-newsletters and notifications from Firestorm and from many other industry organizations. The data throughout this final, corresponding report was collected between March 2018 through May 2018. We collected responses from participants in 21 countries.
The purpose of the IT Resiliency Planning Assessment Study was to assess IT Resiliency planning initiatives, which included: budgets, dedicated personnel, data backup, disaster recovery sites, exercises, plan development, training, program management, integration with IT operations and much more.
The findings from the Firestorm Analytical Solutions 3rd Edition IT Resiliency Planning Assessment Study highlighted several advancements in IT Resiliency Planning initiatives, including:
- Thirty-six percent of study respondents directly manage personnel dedicated to IT Resiliency planning initiatives.
- Organizations are better utilizing their designated recovery sites. Designated recovery sites only accommodating data backups and/or imaging decreased from 10% in 2016 to 2% in 2018.
- Participants indicating that a power station and/or telecommunication network exchange is shared between the furthest DR site and the primary site dropped from 15% in 2016 to 6% in 2018.
