Wednesday’s Thunderstorm Forecast
Red shaded areas have the greatest chance of seeing severe storms.
In addition to the chance for severe thunderstorms, heavy rain is expected from eastern Texas into the Ohio Valley through Wednesday and some flooding is possible as well. Widespread rainfall up to two inches may also spread up the East coast into the Northeast, with locally higher amounts possible.
The National Weather Service has issued flood watches from central Alabama to northern Georgia and western Virginia.
In Louisiana, two apparent tornadoes touched down about 3:15 p.m. in the Belle River and Paincourtville areas in Assumption Parish, said Deputy Robert Martin, spokesman for the parish Sheriff’s Office.
Martin said a few business at the intersection of La. 1 and lLa. 70 in Paincourtville have been damaged from the tornado that passed through.
An apparent tornado tore through a major commercial strip along one of Ascension Parish’s busiest traffic corridors around noon Tuesday, ripping off walls and roofs, wrapping sheet metal around power poles and spreading debris everywhere.
Parish officials said the path of the severe winds appeared to have cut across Airline Highway near the La. 42 intersection and head to the northeast causing minor damage in the Oak Grove area and parts farther northeast toward Bayou Manchac.
The north wall of Gold’s Gym, which had just opened in December in the Commerce Centre Shopping Center on Airline, was ripped off of the building along with a portion of the roof. No one was injured.
