Public Relations – Media Management and ‘Lessons Learned’ from Firestorm’s media management experience at Virginia Tech following the 2007 campus shootings, and other client crisis scenarios – an inside look at how crises develop, and why it is important to have a uniform message and crisis communications plan in place.

Understanding the Needs of the Media – Quick response capabilities are crucial to establishing your company as a source of information for the media during an emergency. Understanding and assessing media needs, constraints and internal media-relations capabilities will be addressed.

Utilizing a Written Media Communications Plan – Effective media communication requires a written media communication plan prepared and endorsed by senior management in advance. Firestorm will outline components of an actionable crisis communications plan.

Training a Media Communications Spokesperson – A well trained spokesperson, trained in both communications and emergency issues, is a necessary requirement for effective media communications during a crisis. Firestorm will outline characteristics of an effective spokesperson and provide training, drills and a mock press conference.

Interactive Group Test Exercises– Test exercises will give participants an appreciation of how decisions need to be made, both at a strategic and tactical level. Creating predetermined responses to communicate and manage media during a crisis will be covered extensively for this audience.
