International Emergency Manager Joins Council

ROSWELL, Ga. – Dennis K. Hamilton, an emergency management specialist with more than 25 years experience in international disaster preparation and response, has joined the Firestorm Expert Council.

Mr. Hamilton has worked with the United Nations Disaster Management Training Program, a global effort to prepare national disaster management strategies and capacity in more than 70 countries. He has also developed training materials and conducted training courses in all aspects of disaster management for national and international personnel, business, government and non-government organizations.

He is currently serving as a consultant with CARE USA and CARE International to improve their emergency response capacity and with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance, developing a web-based distance learning program and a training course on Humanitarian Coordination.

Hamilton said the shared focus on the human toll of disasters attracted him to Firestorm.

“You either are or you are not able to empathize with the situation of victims of a disaster,” Hamilton said. “The challenge for emergency responders is to walk the line between empathy for and emotional involvement with those they are working to assist. Close emotional attachment alters perspective, builds biases and compromises objectivity.”

The Firestorm Solutions Expert Council is comprised of dozens of highly respected leaders in security/safety, health/medicine, manufacturing/mining, crisis communications/response, risk management, law, finance and corporate governance/compliance. Distinguished members include former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop.

“Denny is the embodiment of our belief that ‘Every Crisis is a Human Crisis,’ ” said Firestorm President/COO James W. Satterfield. “His presence on the Expert Council not only provides our clients years of international disaster management experience, but an underlying compassion and commitment to the victims of a disaster.”

Firestorm Solutions offers institutions of all types a no-fee conference call to discuss emergency preparedness, management and response. The preparedness book “Disaster Ready People for a Disaster Ready America,” is available for free download at
