Samuel Smith


Sam Smith is a banking consultant and president of Pinales Consulting, LLC of Evergreen, Colorado. He currently advises bank directors and officers on issues of policy and management, and, as an Expert Council member of Firestorm, he provides business continuity consulting to its clients.

Mr. Smith retired from the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland in 2007 as senior vice president, a post he held for 21 years. His 37 year Federal Reserve career began at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, which he joined in 1970 after serving as a Naval Officer in Vietnam.

While at the Cleveland Fed, Mr. Smith served on the senior management committee and had a variety of responsibilities including chief financial officer, providing Fed payments and securities services to depository institutions and the U.S. Treasury, and conducting payments system research. In the 1970’s he participated in pioneering work on the automated clearing house (ACH) system and in the late 1980’s he chaired the Federal Reserve System’s Subcommittee on Cash Services.

For a number of years Mr. Smith also had responsibility for support functions, including facilities, physical security, information security and business continuity for the Cleveland Fed and its branch offices in Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.

Mr. Smith holds a B.S degree, from Georgia Tech and MBA and Master of Professional Accountancy degrees from Georgia State University. He is also a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.

He a member of the Rotary Club of Evergreen, Colorado and the board for Art for the Mountain Community.
