Disaster Preparedness, ASIS
Bob Ballagh – As the owner of an independent consulting firm, Bob has had contracts for developing operations plans and exercises, managing large projects, and designing and preparing displays for security systems.
Bob joined CheckFree, an electronic financial services company, in 1999 as the Director of Safety and Security; when Fiserv purchased CheckFree in late 2007, Bob became Fiserv’s Director of Physical Security and Safety. In this role he developed and implemented corporate security policies and standards and innovative security programs and systems that included single card access to all facilities, consolidated alarm monitoring, and digitally recorded CCTV. Under his leadership, the physical security programs met all audit requirements including PCI, ISO 27001/27002, Federal Regulatory, and customer. Security became a significant “value add” part of CheckFree’s marketing portfolio.
Bob’s view of security goes beyond traditional “protection of assets.” Security includes preventing unauthorized access to company data and data systems; protecting people, facilities, and company property; and creating conditions for continuous operations if the business requires it. He is innovative in reducing costs, replacing paper recordkeeping with auditable electronically stored records, and enhancing overall security posture. He understands the various requirements demanded of the financial services industry, including SAS-70, PCI, Federal Regulatory, ISO, and protection of privacy. He is trained in IT security; business continuity planning; risk management; incident response and management; prevention and mitigation of violence in the workplace; and investigations.
Bob’s accomplishments includes designing and implementing security systems for more than thirty offices, three new buildings, and two data centers (including a Tier III+ data center). He developed a Corporate-wide security awareness training program and a life safety program that included trained volunteer first aid/CPR responders, Automated External Defibrillators, and facility fire and emergency evacuation wardens.
Bob is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and holds a Masters Degree from Duke University. He completed service in the US Army as a Colonel. He is board certified by ASIS International as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and belongs to the ASIS International Banking & Financial Services Council. He has made several presentations to ASIS Seminars and to local ASIS chapters.
