SUMMARY:VAIS and Firestorm Present: Predictive Insights: Looking for Clues in Advance of a Crisis
DESCRIPTION:To paraphrase the eminent Dr. Robert L Pfaltzgraff Jr.\, crises prediction may be the result of a failure of imagination or the inability to connect informational dots properly. What is deemed as unlikely is demoted as a focus of preparatory efforts. The unfamiliar becomes the highly improbable. We discard bits of information that may have enabled us to prepare for a crisis because we are unable to think of abstract threats. We lose or overlook clues that may give us advance warning. We don’t know what we don’t know and are incapable of thinking about the unknown. \nIn a crisis\, we can only react with what we know. Through the combination of leveraging technology\, tools\, and expertise of analytics\, we can not only aid in critical decision support in times of crisis\, we may be able to foretell and prevent a crisis altogether. \nIn this webinar\, Chief Intelligence Officer for Firestorm\, Karen Masullo\, will discuss how you can work toward eliminating crisis surprise\, disaster denial and self-deception by using technology and analysis to identify potential issues before they evolve into crisis. \nYou must register via this link: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/7678077000557068033 \n

SUMMARY:Yes\, There has been Sexual Misconduct at your School! - A Firestorm/TAIS Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Firestorm CEO and President\, Jim Satterfield\, will be presenting sessions at multiple Tennessee Association of Independent Schools (TAIS) workshops. \n\nMonday\, February 26th from 12-3 p.m. CT\n\nGrace-St. Luke’s Episcopal School in Memphis\, TN\n\n\nTuesday\, February 27th from 8:30-11:30 a.m. CT\n\nThe Covenant School in Nashville\, TN\n\n\nWednesday\, February 28th from 12-3 p.m. CT\n\nBrainerd Baptist School in Chattanooga\, TN\n\n\n\nYes\, There has been Sexual Misconduct at your School!\nAnd it is probably still going on!! Any school that has been in operation for a reasonable period of time has likely had students exposed to behaviors which were inappropriate. These could be things as simple as an off-color comment or as heinous as coerced sexual activity. Unfortunately\, perpetrators of these types of activities rarely do them once. What we have seen from the recent articles published around the country is that the perpetrators often have a long history\, and like the problems seen in the faith-based community\, they move from place to place\, often with positive recommendations. \nPublic disclosures of sexual misconduct at independent and private schools have been increasing over the last several years. The high-profile articles written in major national publications have increased the willingness of victims to come forward. Also\, as a result of the exposure of practices in the faith-based community\, over decades\, many states have changed their statute of limitations for both civil and criminal cases of sexual abuse. Furthermore\, many jurisdictions have tightened up their standards for what can be considered consensual sex between a person and someone in a position of authority. \n#METOO is increasing focus on these behaviors of concern. Where do you start? What do you need to do right now? What do you need to have in place? Do you have: \n\nTraining for all school community members on “behaviors of concern”;\nAn anonymous reporting system for notifying the school when a behavior is observed;\nA central repository where all reported behavior gets logged;\nA Behavioral Management Team that is trained to review and understand behaviors and what needs to be done;\nA detailed process for developing action plans to monitor individuals identified as needing assistance; and\nAn open source intelligence monitoring program that allows the school administration and your Behavioral Management Team to understand what is being said and received early warning from social media postings?\n\nThis Firestorm TAIS Workshop will provide attendees a review of current exposures\, identify needed protocols\, and conduct an exercise designed to step attendees through the onset\, investigation\, and response. In today’s world\, it is not an “if”\, but a “when.” One of the lessons learned from the incidents currently being exposed from decades ago\, is somebody always knew.
