SUMMARY:Georgia Independent Schools Association Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Jim Satterfield\, Firestorm President/COO and Co-Founder\, will be presenting at this year’s Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) Workshop. \nThe workshop will be held on December 6 from 9:30 – 12:30 p.m. Jim will discuss the topic of “How Do You Manage a Crisis?” \nSession Details: Everyday there is a school in crisis.  How school leadership responds to a crisis in the first minutes\, hours and days will determine whether the situation turns out to be a disruption or a catastrophe. Perhaps the greatest lesson learned from crises is the importance of slowing down the flow of events\, taking the time to properly think through the vulnerabilities and threats\, while developing a strategy that anticipates the consequences of every action. \nDuring a crisis\, seconds count.  Actions and words matter. Schools feel an overwhelming compulsion to act and speak.  Very often\, these initial inclinations are wrong\, and result in additional exposure and liability. \n \nJim Satterfield Firestorm President and COO \n\nWe have seen violence\, bullying\, fraud\, sexting\, suicide\, racism\, shootings\, and sexual molestation. In these situations\, the decisions you make\, the actions you take\, and the words you say will determine if the situation stabilizes or escalates. The adrenaline which is always present in a crisis situation causes people to act and react far too quickly. Mistakes are always made. It is so important\, in any crisis situation\, to just stop and take the time to truly appraise the situation. \nAttendees will learn the Crisis STOP™ steps necessary to: \n\n     Stabilize the situation\n     Trigger the appropriate resources\n     Opine on the exposures and decisions\n     Prevent common crisis errors\n\nFirestorm® is America’s Crisis Coach®. Since 2005\, Firestorm has assisted clients in transforming crisis into value. The Firestorm Predict.Plan.Perform.® methodology combines best-practice consulting with proven crisis management expertise\, empowering clients to manage risk and crisis. The Crisis STOP product was created from the knowledge and experience gained handling hundreds of crises. \nAbout GISA\nGeorgia Independent School Association (GISA) is a non-profit association of private\, independent\, and parochial schools throughout the state. The mission of GISA is to advance excellence and collaboration among Georgia’s independent schools by serving the professional growth\, advocacy and interscholastic needs of member schools. Each member school is unique\, while sharing a unified commitment to overall excellence as well as to the nurture and care of the physical\, intellectual\, social and moral development of all students.

SUMMARY:VAIS and Firestorm Present: Benchmarking Preparedness – How do we know if we are ready?

SUMMARY:NCAIS Business Officers Conference
DESCRIPTION:The 2017 NCAIS (North Carolina Association of Independent Schools) Business Officers Conference will convene from January 10-12\, 2017. \nFirestorm President\, Jim Satterfield\, will present two sessions at this year’s conference. \nSession One\, January 11 at 10:15 a.m. EST: Active Shooter – How do we stop the madness?\nEveryday there is a school in crisis. How they respond to that crisis in the first minutes\, hours and days will determine whether the situation turns out to be a disruption or a catastrophe. During a crisis\, seconds count. Actions and words matter. Organizations feel an overwhelming compulsion to act and speak. Very often\, these initial inclinations are wrong\, and result in additional exposure and liability. \nEvery Crisis is a Human Crisis. While Firestorm® uses this phrase to focus the impacts of disasters\, crises\, and violence on people\, it also applies to understanding the likelihood and immediacy of events. Whether violence or cyber-bullying\, there are warning signs and indicators. Missing recognition of behaviors of concern or failing to listen to what is being said empowers escalation to violence. Knowing before the gun comes to school is a critical intelligence planning responsibility for every school. The earlier a problem is detected\, the less impact it will have. \n \nJim Satterfield Firestorm President and COO \n\nIt should be the aim of every school to create a culture where safety from violence is a common goal of both teachers and school leadership. To achieve such a culture\, warning signs must be recognized and understood; everyone must know how to report behaviors of concern; there must be procedures in place to investigate when there are concerns; and trained school employees must know when to conduct a behavioral risk assessment and have the necessary resources in place to do so. \nCrisis STOP is a no cost service which Firestorm provides to support NCAIS ember schools. Firestorm will provide up to one hour of crisis management assistance for your school. This initial consultation slows the process\, controls panic\, identifies the immediate concerns\, provides direction\, and lays the foundation for appropriate consequence management. \nAttendees to the Firestorm session will receive a one year license for the Firestorm Behavioral Risk and Threat Assessment Program (BeRThA®) at no cost. \nSession Two\, January 12 at 1:30 p.m. EST: Benchmark Your Plan – Preparedness/Personal Plan Review Session – How do we know if we are ready?\nBRING YOUR PLAN – THE GROUP WILL REVIEW & ANALYZE STRENGTHS AND GAPS. Verify that your program meets best practices and standards. Discover the gaps in your plans before issues occur. The analysis results in the identification of specific enhancements for: leadership requirements\, decision processes\, command and control operations\, emergency response\, procedures\, streamlined communication techniques and facility/equipment upgrades. \nPreparedness is a continuous improvement process. You will learn a high-level DIY Benchmark process. Your school community looks to your school leadership to understand what needs to be done to assure that your students are safe. Unless your plans are aligned to best practices\, actionable\, documented\, trained\, and tested\, your program will fail. \nRegistration: \nPricing\n\nBusiness Officers – $230 Register Webinar Image\nNon-Member Schools\nBusiness Officers – $230 \n*Registration closes on Friday\, January 6\, 2017 \nAbout NCAIS: \nNCAIS\, established in 1970\, has been serving independent schools in North Carolina for over 40 years.  NCAIS services and benefits include professional networking\, advocacy initiatives\, legislative oversight\, professional development\, an interactive website\, research and statistics\, resources and referral\, and VISnet (Virtual Independent School Network). NCAIS members represent a wide variety of school types\, sizes\, and geographic locations and all adhere to the highest standards in accreditation.

SUMMARY:21st Annual AFSA - Vehicle Finance Conference & Expo
DESCRIPTION:New Orleans will be the host city of the 21st Annual AFSA Vehicle Finance Conference & Expo from January 24-26\, 2017. Firestorm President/COO and Co-Founder\, Jim Satterfield\, will be attending and presenting at this year’s conference. \nHow Do You Stop a Crisis?\nJim’s session\, How Do You Stop a Crisis?\, will be held on Tuesday\, January 24 from 3:45 p.m. – 5 p.m. CST. \nAbout the session: \nEveryday there is a company in crisis.  How leadership responds to a crisis in the first minutes\, hours and days will determine whether the situation turns out to be a disruption or a catastrophe. Organizations feel an overwhelming compulsion to act and speak.  Very often\, these initial inclinations are wrong\, and result in additional exposure and liability. \nIn these crisis situations\, the decisions you make\, the actions you take\, and the words you say will determine if the situation stabilizes or escalates. The Firestorm Predict.Plan.Perform.® methodology combines best-practice consulting with proven crisis management expertise\, empowering clients to manage risk and crisis. SUMMARY:TAIS and Firestorm Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Behavioral Risk and Threat Assessment Workshop \nFirestorm and the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools team together to present a day-long\, interactive and live workshop. Firestorm President\, Jim Satterfield\, will be presenting at the workshop. \nEvery Crisis is a Human Crisis. While Firestorm® uses this phrase to focus the impacts of disasters\, crises\, and violence on people\, it also applies to understanding the likelihood and immediacy of events. To create a safe and violence-free school culture\, warning signs must be recognized and understood; everyone must know how to report behaviors of concern; there must be procedures in place to investigate when there are concerns; and trained school employees must know when to conduct a behavioral risk assessment and have the necessary resources in place to do so.  In this workshop we will show you how to assess preparedness and to take appropriate steps to assess behavioral risks.  The workshop will end with an interactive crisis management scenario involving sexting. \n I.  Benchmarking Preparedness – How do we know if we are ready?\nVerify that your program meets best practices and standards. Preparedness is a continuous improvement process. You will learn a high-level DIY Benchmark process. Your school community looks to your school leadership to understand what needs to be done to assure that your students are safe. Unless your plans are aligned to best practices\, actionable\, documented\, trained\, and tested\, your program will fail. \nII.  Behavioral Risk Threat Assessment – How do you stop bullying\, suicide\, and guns before it’s too late?\nThis section will cover the behaviors of concern assessment process and teams required to ensure immediate\, systematic response to students at risk.  It will address actionable steps to take now: \n\nBehavioral Risk and Threat Assessment Program Components\nPredictive Intelligence Network Design\nCase Study Analysis of Violence Behaviors\n\nIII. Interactive Crisis Management Test Exercise – How does a crisis escalate?\nSexting has serious consequences not only for the person taking and sending the photos\, but also for the person on the receiving end. Schools must have a plan for when sexting occurs. School leadership and teams must consider the emotional consequences of sexting and the legal ramifications as well.\nIn this exercise\, we will simulate an event and encourage dialogue related to the emotional and legal consequences of sexting\, such as: \n\nEmbarrassment and humiliation\nBullying\nEnd of friendships\nGuilt and shame\nObjectification\nFeelings of hopelessness\nExposure to adult\, sexual predators\nCriminal or other charges for child pornography\nSex offender registry\nParental exposure to legal consequences\nChildren and Family Services involvement\n\nRegister for the workshop. \nNote:  Attendees of this Firestorm workshop will receive a one-year license for the Firestorm Behavioral Risk and Threat Assessment Program (BeRThA®) at no cost. \nSPECIAL OPTION: Personal Plan Review Session – By Appointment Only \nDiscover the gaps in your plans before issues occur. Bring your plans for a one-on-one review\, analysis\, and discussion of your plans. The analysis results in the identification of specific enhancements for: leadership requirements\, decision processes\, command and control operations\, emergency response\, procedures\, streamlined communication techniques and facility/equipment upgrades. \n\nJim Satterfield\, COO\, President – James (Jim) W. Satterfield is the President/COO of Firestorm. Satterfield has experience as President\, CEO\, and COO of various public and private companies in business continuity\, communications\, crisis management\, environmental\, insurance\, reinsurance\, risk management\, and technology. Jim has extensive expertise in the identification of vulnerabilities and risks along with solution design. \nJim is a nationally recognized expert in the field of preparedness and crisis management\, and has spoken to hundreds of groups on risk management\, crisis management\, governance\, and disaster planning.
