Held from September 18 – 21\, 2016 in Phoenix\, AZ\, attendees will have the opportunity to network with industry experts\, attend presentations and advance their professional development. His sessions are below. \n\n1.) Crisis as a Peril™ – What is the biggest risk your organization faces?\nWhen: \nWednesday\, September 21 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. \nPresented by: Jim Satterfield\, Firestorm President/COO and Co-Founder \nIf common exposures like fire\, workplace violence\, malpractice or the myriad of other known vulnerabilities were the first thing to come to mind\, think again. There is a far greater problem lurking. Crisis! Crisis as a peril. Crisis as the cause of the damage to your business\,\nyour brand\, your company’s existence. Fire. Flood. Cyber. These are known risks. They are manageable\, mitigatable and controllable.  Where planning often fails is working on those things that you ‘don’t know.’ The biggest risk an organization faces is the unknown. So what does this all mean? What is the biggest risk your organization faces? It is the impact of the unknown. It is the rate of change that widens the gap between what is known and unknown. It is the crisis created by the thing which is lurking in the dark. \n\n2.) Workplace Violence Prevention (WPV) Training and Plan Development – What do you do? \n– Post Conference Course 5\n\nWhen: \nWed.\, September 21\, 1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.\nThurs.\, September 22\, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. \nFirestorm® is America’s CRISIS COACH®. Learn from the best. Attendees will develop a WPV Behavioral Risk Threat Assessment Program. Every crisis is a human crisis. While Firestorm® uses this phrase to focus the impacts of disasters\, crises\, and violence on people\, it also applies to understanding the likelihood and immediacy of events. Whether violence or cyber-bullying\, there are warning signs and indicators. Missing recognition of behaviors of concern or failing to listen to what is being said empowers escalation to violence. Knowing before the gun comes to work is a critical intelligence planning responsibility for every company. The earlier a problem is detected\, the less impact it will have. \nIt should be the aim of every company to create a culture where safety from violence is a common goal of both employees and leadership. To achieve such a culture\, warning signs must be recognized and understood; everyone must know how to report behaviors of concern; there must be procedures in place to investigate when there are concerns; and trained school employees must know when to conduct a behavioral risk assessment and have the necessary resources in place to do so. \nAttendees of this session will: \n\nReceive a one year license for the Firestorm Behavioral Risk and Threat Assessment Program (BeRThA®) at no cost.\nLearn behavioral risk and threat assessment program components\nReview case study analysis of violence behaviors\nDevelop a predictive intelligence network\n\n\nHow To Negotiate During a Crisis – Tactics and Strategies\nPresented by: Jack Healey\, CPA\, CFF\, CFE\, Managing Director Business Crisis Practice\, Firestorm \nWhen a crisis occurs\, ultimately you will find yourself in the middle of negotiations. Whether for facilities\, supplies or concessions from key suppliers\, having obtained formal training in the area of crisis negotiations will benefit you and your organization. BANTA – “Best Alternative to a Negogiated Agreement\, includes; How to handle emotionally charged negotiations; How to diffuse a hostile counterpart\, and how to conduct multi-dimensional negotiations. This workshop will use role playing\, video and informational outlines. Participants will learn proven methods developed by negotiation professionals. Who should attend? Anyone who anticipates being part of multi-dimensional negotiations as a result of a crisis or disaster and needs to be prepared. \nJack’s session will be held on Tuesday\, September 20 from 3 – 5:30 p.m. \n\nEarly Registration Dates: \n\n$1\,295 through September 18\, 2016\n\nDiscount prices and scholarship opportunities are available.

SUMMARY:62nd Annual Human Resources Management Conference
DESCRIPTION:The 62nd Annual Human Resources Management Conference will be hosted by the University of Alabama October 13-14. Firestorm President/COO and Co-Founder\, Jim Satterfield\, will be attending and presenting a session at this year’s conference. Jim’s session\, entitled HR’s Role in Business Continuity\, will be held Friday\, October 14 from 10-11:15 a.m. \nEvery Crisis is a Human Crisis: HR’s roles in business continuity and workplace violence\nToday\, one third of all business continuity programs are led by HR. Everyday there is a company in crisis.  How you respond to that crisis in the first minutes\, hours and days will determine whether the situation turns out to be a disruption or a catastrophe. During a crisis\, seconds count.  Actions and words matter. Organizations feel an overwhelming compulsion to act and speak.  Very often\, these initial inclinations are wrong\, and result in additional exposure and liability. Each attendee will receive a one-year license and training at no-cost for the Firestorm Workplace Violence Prevention / Behavioral Risk Threat Assessment Program (BeRThA®). \n \nJim Satterfield Firestorm President and COO \n\nEvery Crisis is a Human Crisis. \nAttendees will learn what to do and participate in a hands-on workplace violence exercise. People do not just snap. There are warning signs\, red flags\, cues\, signals – but often they are not considered to be of a serious nature\, so they are not reported. Missing recognition of behaviors of concern or failing to listen to what is being said empowers escalation to violence. Preventing a gun from coming to work and thwarting an act of violence before one occurs is a critical intelligence planning responsibility for every company. The earlier a problem is detected\, the less impact it will have. \nEach attendee will receive Crisis STOP™ (no cost service which Firestorm provides to companies. Firestorm will provide up to one hour of crisis management assistance. This initial consultation slows the process\, controls panic\, identifies the immediate concerns\, provides direction\, and lays the foundation for appropriate consequence management. \nRegister for the conference. \nAbout the Conference\nHosted by The University of Alabama\, the HRM Conference is designed to develop the full range of skills and knowledge vital to the success of the contemporary human resource professional. Presented by experienced human resource and employment law experts from across the state\, this conference is consistently referred to as a must-attend event! \nWho Should Attend?\nThe people who will most benefit from attending the HRM conference are the executives\, human resource managers\, and practitioners who are truly concerned about their most precious asset: people. Additionally\, if you find yourself in the following functional areas\, this conference is designed for you: \n\nEmployee and industrial relations\nOrganizational development\nBenefits and compensation\nSelection and placement\nSafety and security\nTraining and development\nLegal compliance\nManagement practices\nOwner or manager of a small business

SUMMARY:EAF Human Resources Briefing and Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Firestorm President/COO and Co-Founder\, Jim Satterfield will be conducting an exercise at this year’s Employers Association Forum (EAF) Human Resources Briefing and Annual Meeting. The exercise will be held on October 28 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Jim will be co-presenting the hands-on exercise\, Every Crisis is a Human Crisis\, with Cassie Shurr  of R3 Continuum. \nLearn more about the annual meeting. \n“EVERY CRISIS IS A HUMAN CRISIS” \nEvery Crisis is a Human Crisis. While this phrase focuses the impacts of disasters\, crises\, and violence on people\, it also applies to understanding the likelihood and immediacy of events. During a crisis\, seconds count.  Actions and words matter. Organizations feel an overwhelming compulsion to act and speak.  Very often\, these initial inclinations are wrong\, and result in additional exposure and liability. When you are at the center of a crisis\, your visibility exposure is increased. What you say and do becomes critical. If you do not have visibility into what others are saying\, your exposure increases. \nWhether violence or cyber-bullying\, there are warning signs and indicators. Missing recognition of behaviors of concern or failing to listen to what is being said empowers escalation to violence. Knowing before the gun comes to work is a critical intelligence planning responsibility for every organization. The earlier a problem is detected\, the less impact it will have. \nIt should be the aim of every company to create a culture where safety from violence is a common goal of both employees and leadership.  To achieve such a culture\, warning signs must be recognized and understood; everyone must know how to report behaviors of concern; there must be procedures in place to investigate when there are concerns; and trained employees must know when to conduct a behavioral risk assessment and have the necessary resources in place to do so. \n\nAbout the Presenters\n \nCassie Shurr\, LCSW and Workplace Violence Coordinator of R3 Continuum \n\nCassie Shurr\, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker with over 10 years of experience in the behavioral health field.  Her focus has been in the areas of threat assessment and management\, fitness for duty\, corporate crisis management and response\, victims’ services\, and substance abuse treatment. \nCassie currently serves as workplace violence services coordinator at R3 Continuum\, overseeing the day to day clinical operations of their threat of violence and workplace violence programs. Cassie was also instrumental in the development of the R3 executive concierge services. \nPrior to her role at R3 Continuum\, Cassie served as a crisis coordinator for Supportive Solutions\, Inc.\, coordinating all major crises including the Boston Marathon bombing\, the shootings at Sandy Hook\, Hurricane Sandy\, and many others.  She also has prior experience in the areas of substance abuse and  motivational interviewing\, case management\, and victim advocacy.  Cassie holds a BA in psychology from Chatham College and a Master’s in Social Work from University of Pittsburgh. \n  \n  \n\n \nJim Satterfield Firestorm President and COO \n\nJames (Jim) W. SUMMARY:TAIS Biennial Conference
DESCRIPTION:The 2016 TAIS (Tennessee Association of Independent Schools) Biennial Conference will convene November 6-7 in Chattanooga\, TN at McCallie School. Firestorm President/COO and Co-Founder\, Jim Satterfield\, will be presenting two sessions at the two-day event. \n  \nThe sessions include: \nSchool Violence\, Sexting  and Cyber Bullying – How do we stop the madness?\nSunday\, November 6 from 2:45 – 3:40 \nThe earlier a problem is detected\, the less impact it will have on your school. While there is no guarantee that every threat will be captured\, intelligence monitoring must be part of your school violence prevention program. There are threats and risks you can identify\, before they become crises\, if you listen and look. \nAddressing the dangers of sexting and cyber bullying in schools must start with a vulnerability and threat assessment process. Understanding the nature of these risks allows a school to take appropriate steps in its strategies to mitigate and respond should a sexting incident\, cyber bullying situation or public crisis occur. A comprehensive risk assessment ensures threats that emerge as a result of students\, employees\, administrative processes\, technology\, or external environmental changes are identified. \n\nCrisis Management – How do you stop a crisis?\nSunday\, November 6 from 3:55 – 4:50 \nThe worst crisis you will ever see is the one that strikes your school. Today\, everything is foreseeable\, and tomorrow anyone can be held accountable. Every day\, multiple schools face crisis. A \n\ncrisis is not business as usual. A crisis is business as unusual. The initial information received is incomplete and wrong. Conflicting advice will rain down. Leadership lacks the metrics and structure to make effective decisions. Your choices are bogged down by bad alternatives. You face conflicting opinions and advice from multiple parties. The crisis may pass quickly\, but the consequences will have a life of their own. What must schools  have documented for a crisis management plan to guide decisions in a crisis? \n  \nRegister for the event \n\nAbout TAIS\nThe Tennessee Association of Independent Schools is a voluntary association of fifty-six schools located throughout the state of Tennessee. It is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors\, all of whom are currently serving as Headmasters of TAIS schools.   \nWhile each school is unique\, they share four key qualities: they provide strong academic programs\, appreciate students as unique individuals\, promote student engagement in community service\, and facilitate the moral and ethical growth of their students. In addition\, all TAIS schools maintain non-discriminatory policies\, are incorporated as nonprofit organizations governed by a Board of Trustees\, and are accredited either by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS)\, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) or the state of Tennessee.

SUMMARY:Georgia Independent Schools Association Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Jim Satterfield\, Firestorm President/COO and Co-Founder\, will be presenting at this year’s Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) Workshop. \nThe workshop will be held on December 6 from 9:30 – 12:30 p.m. Jim will discuss the topic of “How Do You Manage a Crisis?” \nSession Details: Everyday there is a school in crisis.  How school leadership responds to a crisis in the first minutes\, hours and days will determine whether the situation turns out to be a disruption or a catastrophe. Perhaps the greatest lesson learned from crises is the importance of slowing down the flow of events\, taking the time to properly think through the vulnerabilities and threats\, while developing a strategy that anticipates the consequences of every action. \nDuring a crisis\, seconds count.  Actions and words matter. Schools feel an overwhelming compulsion to act and speak.  Very often\, these initial inclinations are wrong\, and result in additional exposure and liability. \n \nJim Satterfield Firestorm President and COO \n\nWe have seen violence\, bullying\, fraud\, sexting\, suicide\, racism\, shootings\, and sexual molestation. In these situations\, the decisions you make\, the actions you take\, and the words you say will determine if the situation stabilizes or escalates. The adrenaline which is always present in a crisis situation causes people to act and react far too quickly. Mistakes are always made. It is so important\, in any crisis situation\, to just stop and take the time to truly appraise the situation. \nAttendees will learn the Crisis STOP™ steps necessary to: \n\n     Stabilize the situation\n     Trigger the appropriate resources\n     Opine on the exposures and decisions\n     Prevent common crisis errors\n\nFirestorm® is America’s Crisis Coach®. Since 2005\, Firestorm has assisted clients in transforming crisis into value. The Firestorm Predict.Plan.Perform.® methodology combines best-practice consulting with proven crisis management expertise\, empowering clients to manage risk and crisis. The Crisis STOP product was created from the knowledge and experience gained handling hundreds of crises. \nAbout GISA\nGeorgia Independent School Association (GISA) is a non-profit association of private\, independent\, and parochial schools throughout the state. The mission of GISA is to advance excellence and collaboration among Georgia’s independent schools by serving the professional growth\, advocacy and interscholastic needs of member schools. Each member school is unique\, while sharing a unified commitment to overall excellence as well as to the nurture and care of the physical\, intellectual\, social and moral development of all students.
