SUMMARY:The University of Alabama and Firestorm Present: Prevention Before Escalation (Part 1 of 2) – Identifying Behaviors of Concern Before Violence
DESCRIPTION:If you had the opportunity to stop even one incident of self-harm or harm to others\, would you? Every day we witness increasing episodes of workplace or school violence; and following every incident we hear\, “there were warning signs.” \nOur ability to keep our employees\, customers\, visitors\, students and ourselves safe depends upon identifying potential behaviors of concern before they enter the building. \nMany organizations have implemented emergency response plans that address protocols to use for an active shooter\, e.g. lockdown. They have set up crisis teams to respond when a bad event has occurred. Although a robust emergency response plan requires these tactics\, they do not address the real problem— ‘how do we end the madness?” \nThe answer to keeping our employees and others safe lies in prevention. It is the job of every responsible leader to try and prevent acts of violence. \nCan this be done? It can be done through an organization’s implementation of a Behavioral Risk Threat Assessment Program – a program Firestorm calls BeRThA®. This month we discuss how to intercede before an act of violence occurs. Next month\, we will review how to respond when violence enters your organization. \nYou must register via this link: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/4379923647766713346
