SUMMARY:TAIS and Firestorm Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Behavioral Risk and Threat Assessment Workshop \nFirestorm and the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools team together to present a day-long\, interactive and live workshop. Firestorm President\, Jim Satterfield\, will be presenting at the workshop.  \nEvery Crisis is a Human Crisis. While Firestorm® uses this phrase to focus the impacts of disasters\, crises\, and violence on people\, it also applies to understanding the likelihood and immediacy of events. To create a safe and violence-free school culture\, warning signs must be recognized and understood; everyone must know how to report behaviors of concern; there must be procedures in place to investigate when there are concerns; and trained school employees must know when to conduct a behavioral risk assessment and have the necessary resources in place to do so.  In this workshop we will show you how to assess preparedness and to take appropriate steps to assess behavioral risks.  The workshop will end with an interactive crisis management scenario involving sexting. \n I.  Benchmarking Preparedness – How do we know if we are ready?\nVerify that your program meets best practices and standards. Preparedness is a continuous improvement process. You will learn a high-level DIY Benchmark process. Your school community looks to your school leadership to understand what needs to be done to assure that your students are safe. Unless your plans are aligned to best practices\, actionable\, documented\, trained\, and tested\, your program will fail. \nII.  Behavioral Risk Threat Assessment – How do you stop bullying\, suicide\, and guns before it’s too late?\nThis section will cover the behaviors of concern assessment process and teams required to ensure immediate\, systematic response to students at risk.  It will address actionable steps to take now: \n\nBehavioral Risk and Threat Assessment Program Components\nPredictive Intelligence Network Design\nCase Study Analysis of Violence Behaviors\n\nIII. Interactive Crisis Management Test Exercise – How does a crisis escalate?\nSexting has serious consequences not only for the person taking and sending the photos\, but also for the person on the receiving end. Schools must have a plan for when sexting occurs. School leadership and teams must consider the emotional consequences of sexting and the legal ramifications as well.\nIn this exercise\, we will simulate an event and encourage dialogue related to the emotional and legal consequences of sexting\, such as: \n\nEmbarrassment and humiliation\nBullying\nEnd of friendships\nGuilt and shame\nObjectification\nFeelings of hopelessness\nExposure to adult\, sexual predators\nCriminal or other charges for child pornography\nSex offender registry\nParental exposure to legal consequences\nChildren and Family Services involvement\n\nRegister for the workshop. \nNote:  Attendees of this Firestorm workshop will receive a one-year license for the Firestorm Behavioral Risk and Threat Assessment Program (BeRThA®) at no cost. \nSPECIAL OPTION: Personal Plan Review Session – By Appointment Only \nDiscover the gaps in your plans before issues occur.
