JOEL GELB

Joel Gelb has extensive experience in technology and information systems management. For most of his career he has acted as a senior executive/advisor in technology. Most recently he has been Chief Information Officer (CIO) for The Main Street America Group (MSAG). Before joining MSAG he was Senior Vice President and CIO for the Frontier Insurance Group. Joel has also held senior IT management roles with GHI, a large not-for-profit health insurer, and Swiss Re, a major international reinsurance company.

From his experience, Joel has developed significant corporate perspective and management expertise around a number of disciplines including: IT governance and steering processes—a long term interest, recently he developed a best-of-breed practice; data management—overseen the development and successful deployment of a number of different organization level data warehouses; program management—repeated success overseeing large scale application development and installation; and security program development including disaster recovery, business continuity as well as spam, privacy, employee protection and related issues. A key part of his approach to security is the use of testing programs, including penetration/white hat and social engineering testing.

Joel has a background in statistics and research, including technology research and development, and has taught at the university level. He earned his bachelor’s degree at State University of New York—Stony Brook and a master’s degree at The Johns Hopkins University.  He was a research associate at Columbia University, has been cited in journals and has been a member of the Advisory Board of Insurance and Technology Magazine.   <<
